About WorldTripMap

WorldTripMap is a free tool for keeping track of where you have been, and for turning that record into something you would hang on a wall.

What it is

You mark the countries, provinces or cities you have explored. The site counts them, shows your progress, and draws a poster from them that you can download as a picture or a print-ready PDF. It launched with the world, Canada’s provinces and territories, and Canadian cities. More countries will follow one at a time, each published only when its map is accurate and complete.

What we care about

  • Real maps. Every place is a real geographic shape from a named, openly licensed dataset, drawn in a projection chosen for that map. Nothing on the site is a decorative picture pretending to be interactive.
  • Numbers that say what they mean. A percentage is always a share of the places on the map, and the page says so beside it. The data and methods page sets out every rule.
  • Your travels are yours. There is no account. Your map lives in your own browser, and share links carry the map inside the link instead of on our servers. Privacy
  • It should work for everyone. The maps can be used with a mouse, a finger, a keyboard or a screen reader, and every place can also be marked from a plain list.
  • No invented praise. You will not find testimonials, user counts or star ratings here that we cannot back up.

How the guides are written

The pieces under Travel inspiration are written for this site and checked against primary sources where they exist, such as Statistics Canada and the United Nations. Each guide lists its sources and the date they were checked. Guides are published under the WorldTripMap name. When we get something wrong, we correct the page and change its “updated” date.
