Privacy

The short version: there are no accounts, your maps stay in your own browser, and we do not sell or share personal information.

Your maps and posters

The places you mark, your bucket list, your poster settings and the display name you type are saved in your browser’s local storage on the device you are using. They are not sent to us and we cannot see them. Posters are drawn on your device, and the files you download are created there too.

Start over on a map clears the places marked on that map. To remove everything this site has saved on this device, including poster settings and your display name, use the button below or clear this site’s data in your browser settings.

The items stored are:

  • wtm:v1:map:…: the places marked on each map
  • wtm:v1:places:…: the places you ticked inside provinces and territories
  • wtm:v1:poster:…: your poster design choices for each map
  • wtm:v1:profile: the display name you last typed
  • wtm:v1:rollup-dismissed:…: a note that you dismissed a suggestion, kept only until you close the tab

Share and challenge links

When you choose Share or Challenge a friend, the places you marked as explored on that map (not the places ticked inside a province), and your display name if you added one, are written into the link itself, in the part after the “#”. Browsers do not send that part of a link to web servers, so it does not reach us.

Anyone who has the link can see what is in it. Because no copy is kept on a server, there is nothing for us to delete or revoke: to stop sharing a map, stop passing the link on. Do not put anything in the display name that you would not want the people you send it to, or anyone they forward it to, to read.

What we measure

This site does not use analytics, advertising trackers or cookies.

Hosting

Like every website, this one is delivered by a hosting company whose servers briefly record technical details of each request, such as IP address, time, the page requested and the browser used, to keep the service secure and working. We do not combine those records with anything else. Fonts and images are served from this site, so opening a page does not contact any other company.

If you contact us

If you email us, we use your address and message to reply and to fix what you reported. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Children

The site is suitable for general audiences and does not ask anyone for personal information. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices and rights

Because your maps are stored only on your device, you control them directly. For anything you have sent us by email, you can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it or delete it by writing to hello@worldtripmap.com.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and note what changed.
